Dilated Cardiomyopathy is a disease
primarily seen in large breed dogs. It inhibits the ability
of the heart muscle to contract efficiently.
A normal heart (left) and a heart with
cardiomyopathy (right). The diseased heart is rounded and
shapeless, indicating that it has lost muscular function.
Cross section of a normal dog's heart
(left). Notice the thickness of the walls of the heart and
size of the chambers. In the cross section of the diseased
heart, (right) thin heart walls and enlarged chambers can
be seen.
